DESCRIPTION:Broward Children’s Center will host its 22nd Annual Miles for Smiles 5K at Pompano Beach Community Park on Saturday\, Nov. 15. Runners\, walkers\, families\, community leaders\, wheelchairs and strollers of all ages will come together in the beautiful Pompano Beach Community Park to raise funds and awareness to support Broward Children’s Center. \nThe event will feature a family-friendly 5K\, children’s activities\, live entertainment\, raffles\, an awards ceremony and more. \nDuring the event\, Broward Children’s Center executives will present the latest care innovations and technological upgrades at the facility\, including new integrations of advanced ventilator systems\, Masimo patient monitoring\, and PointClickCare software. These upgrades now allow for connected\, real-time patient monitoring and offsite physician access to medical histories\, capabilities unique to Broward Children’s Center among freestanding pediatric care facilities in Florida. \nChildren receiving care at Broward Children’s Center\, including those in electric wheelchairs\, will participate in the 5K route with assistance from more than 40 volunteers representing the International Institute for Health Care Professionals and Broward College’s Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program. Volunteers will help wheel participants and support race-day logistics. \nMiles for Smiles will benefit Broward Children’s Center\, a nonprofit organization that has been serving infants\, children\, and young adults with special needs since 1971. Proceeds will support Broward Children’s Center’s crucial programs and medical\, developmental\, and therapeutic services designed to meet the specific needs of infants\, children and young adults who are developmentally disabled and medically fragile and their families. \nParticipants can join the event as an individual or a team and conduct online fundraising prior to race day. Miles for Smiles race day check-in opens at 8 a.m. and the 5K will begin at 9 a.m. After the race\, an awards ceremony and a raffle will take place.

For 75 years\, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s beloved Christmas Tree Lot has been a cherished holiday tradition\, spreading joy and the magic of the season to families across South Florida while creating great futures for Miami-Dade youth. \nThe tradition continues with the Thoma Bravo Christmas Tree Lot at Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s Hank Kline Club\, open seven days a week\, starting Monday\, Nov. 24\, until trees are sold out. Devoted supporter\, Thoma Bravo\, is sponsoring the tree lot for the third consecutive year. \nTo kick off the holiday season\, and commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Christmas Tree Lot\, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade will host a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday\, Nov. 24\, at 4 p.m. Miami dignitaries\, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade board members\, representatives from Thoma Bravo\, youth members and Santa Claus himself will attend to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. \nAll Fraser fir trees are hand-selected by Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s President Alex Rodriguez-Roig in North Carolina and stand 5-feet to 14-feet tall with a starting price of $65. Poinsettias will also be available starting at $15. Shoppers will also have the opportunity to Sponsor-A-Child to help make a positive impact in the life of a Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade youth member. \nThe Thoma Bravo Christmas Tree Lot will be open on Thanksgiving Day as well as Black Friday. Every Black Friday\, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade sells a tree on average every 63 seconds. \nProceeds from tree and poinsettia sales and Sponsor-A-Child will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s life-changing academic\, creative\, and athletic programs for local children and teens.
