SUMMARY:William Osorio Open Studio
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the final Open Studio of William Osorio’s artist residency at MDC’s Padrón Campus\, featuring recent works created at the studio and an opportunity to engage with the artist. \nMiami-based artist William Osorio is currently in residence at Miami Dade College’s Padrón Campus\, creating new works and engaging with students\, other campus groups\, and members of the public during his residency\, during which visitors are welcome to step into the studio and observe and interact with the artist at work\, engaging in conversations about process\, multidisciplinary artmaking\, and the role of the artist within learning institutions. \nWilliam Osorio (b. 1989\, Holguín\, Cuba) is a Cuban-born American artist investigating human behavior and the convergence of identity and place. Osorio’s affinity for the power of the arts started in his youth. He studied briefly at the School of Fine Arts in Holguin (2005-2007) before emigrating to the US\, where he further developed his skills on a self-taught basis. \nOsorio’s practice involves art history\, literature\, and psychology. His work examines the complex relationship between power and knowledge and often incorporates a reinterpretation of myths. His paintings critically address themes of migration and identity\, while also exploring the communicative channels between the art historical canon and urgent issues of contemporary society. Known primarily as a painter\, the artist increasingly incorporates different media into his work and turns to his own family for artistic inspiration. Past works include wholly abstract compositions as well as portraits of well-known Cuban writers. More recently\, his work includes portraits of his partner and reflections on new fatherhood. \nRefreshments will be served. \nFree parking is available at MDC’s Padrón Campus flat parking lot located at 2501 SW 6TH Street\, Miami\, FL 33135. \nThe Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC may document the event\, including its attendees. By entering the area\, and/or participating in the event\, you consent to the recording and its use in any form. \nMOAD’s programs are made possible with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council\, the Miami-Dade County Mayor\, and Board of County Commissioners. They are sponsored in part by the State of Florida through the Division of Arts and Culture\, and with generous support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

SUMMARY:305 Hive’s Book Club Experience: Theo of Golden

SUMMARY:Freshly Rooted Staged Readings
DESCRIPTION:Written by Bryan Keyth Wilson\nDirected by Brittany King\nChoreographed by Gentry George \nBrévo Theatre presents a powerful series of staged readings by award-winning playwright Bryan Keyth Wilson\, spotlighting urgent stories that interrogate race\, power\, memory\, and survival in America. Featuring The Otha Amerikkka\, 8:46\, and FAFO\, this reading series offers audiences an intimate first look at works in development that confront systemic injustice\, generational trauma\, and the lived realities of Black communities.\nThe Otha Amerikkka\n“tha other ameriKKKa” is a choreopoem inspired by Martin Luther King Jr’s powerful lecture On April 14\, 1967 at Stanford University. This choreopoem is a contemporary analysis of the duality and reality that plague America. Why is there this other America for the marginalized and people with skin colors other than white? Through a blend of poetry\, prose\, music\, and movement\, the piece challenges perceptions and sparks dialogue on the complexities of the American experience. \n8:46\n8:46 delves into the collective and individual experiences of those whose lives were\nirrevocably altered on that fateful morning. The play weaves together testimonies\,\nmemories\, and poetic expressions\, creating a tapestry of voices that reflect the complex\nrealities of race\, privilege\, and trauma in the aftermath of 9/11. The title\, 8:46\, serves as a\npoignant reminder of the exact time the first plane struck\, marking the beginning of an\nevent that changed the world forever and left deep scars on those whose stories are\nseldom told. \nF*** Around And Find Out\nA raw\, unapologetic breakdown of who showed up\, who stayed home\, and how the choices we make at the ballot box shape the world we live in. Told through powerful vignettes\, FAAFO blends investigative theatre with intimate character studies\, using real statistics and lived experiences to dissect the racial and gender divides in voting—because democracy isn’t just a right\, it’s a reckoning. In this bold theatrical experiment\, two actors—one Black man and one Black woman—embody a kaleidoscope of voices\, slipping seamlessly between personas to reveal the personal stakes behind the percentages. From impassioned testimonies to stark moments of reckoning\, FAAFO forces us to confront the numbers not as abstract data\, but as human stories—messy\, complicated\, and impossible to ignore.
