305 Hive is known as a resource that our readers can turn to when they have items to donate, or to volunteer their time. Therefore, we have compiled a list of organizations that have specific needs in the community. Please feel free to reference it or to print it out as needed.

Donation Guide:

Miami Rescue Mission

  • Items Needed: Clothing donations are accepted. Their Amazon Wishlist is updated regularly with their clients’ most-needed items (list found on their website). Hosting a donation drive is a way to get your network involved with their organization

Volunteer Information:

Read to a Child

  • Service Needed: Looking for volunteers who want to commit to reading aloud for 30 minutes weekly lunchtime slot throughout the school year with a local elementary school student. We provide training and support throughout the process.

  • Notes: Though many of our sessions will take place online for now, we are only working with people who could eventually be able to return to in person programming at one of our two schools (Downtown Miami and Palmetto Estates). American Red Cross (South Florida Region)

Uplift Literacy

  • Service Needed: Uplift Literacy is recruiting ReadingPals volunteers for the 2024-2025 school year! ReadingPals volunteers dedicate 1 hour per week to working with Pre-K to 3rd-grade students from historically marginalized communities, helping to equip them with the literacy skills and resources needed to achieve their full potential. Volunteers can select a school from our list of partner sites and commit to attending weekly sessions at the same time each week. We welcome volunteers from various professional backgrounds to come together and give the gift of literacy. Uplift Literacy provides all training and materials needed make to a difference in the life of a child.

  • Notes: We work with 14 different schools/after-school programs. The list can be found here. Dates and times vary by school location. Our volunteers complete one literacy instruction training session (supplemental/optional training are also available) and undergo a Level II background check.
