Shower steamers are very popular right now but did you know that you could make your own?
A shower steamer is just like a bath bomb but for your shower. They can promote relaxation and well-being and make you feel like you are having a luxury spa experience at home. You simply place it on the floor of your shower. As it reacts with the water, it fizzes and releases essential oils into your shower to create an aromatherapeutic experience.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup of Citric Acid
- 1 Cup of Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)
- Up to 20 drops of the high-quality essential oil of choice (such as a combination of Peppermint, Lavender, and Eucalyptus)
- Clamshells or Silicone molds
- Spray or bottle of Witch Hazel
- Optional: Lavender flowers or rose buds & petals (but be sure to remove those after your shower so they don’t clog your drain)
- Optional: Colorants like mica powder or plant powders to color your aromatherapy steamers.
Method:
- Stir the citric acid and baking soda in a glass mixing bowl
- Mix in your essential oil/s
- If you’re using lavender flowers or roses add a few petals or buds to the clamshell
- Spray or add a few drops of your witch hazel to the citric acid, baking soda, and essential oil mixture. It should bubble slightly.
- Mix until the texture feels/looks like wet sand.
- Finally, add your mixture carefully into the wells of your clamshell or silicone molds, leaving a bit of space (do not fill all the way).
- The mixture will grow slightly inside of the molds and fill up the rest of the space.
- Allow your steamers to fully harden before attempting to remove them from the molds.
One of our favorite things about shower steamers is that you can customize them according to your mood and preferences.
Tip: We like to put ours in the corner of the shower so as to extend the use.
