buzz-worthy miami dad: henry ocon

Father’s Day is all about celebrating the incredible dads who help shape the heart of the 305. All month long, we’re honoring Buzz-Worthy Miami Dads — local fathers who lead with love, laughter, and the kind of energy that keeps Miami buzzing. We’re proud to spotlight Henry Ocon — a devoted dad, community connector, and proud Miamian who’s redefining what modern fatherhood looks like.

Henry Ocon is a Miami native with deep roots in both the city and its spirit of culture and resilience. As a longtime team member at Zoo Miami and current Sales and Events Supervisor, Henry is no stranger to creating joyful experiences — both at work and at home. He and his husband Johnny are proud dads to Landon (13) and Atticus (10), and their family calendar is packed with game nights, new restaurant adventures, and frequent trips to Disney (seriously — 6 to 7 times a year!).

Henry says what he loves most about being a dad in Miami is the diversity: “The boys are growing up hearing different languages, eating different foods, and seeing other traditions.” His mantra on hard days is one that resonates deeply: “My family is whole and valid, because it’s built on LOVE.”

From bedtime stories to video games to their hilarious family tradition of “hiking” Sawgrass Mills, Henry embraces every moment of fatherhood — surprises, struggles, and all. His story reminds us that great dads aren’t just present; they’re intentional, inclusive, and full of heart.

Bro! What’s not to love (Lol). Miami has so many different cultures, unique and vibrant experiences. The tropical climate in Miami allows us to go on adventures all year round. We love going to Disney any chance we get. Although summer days can be brutal, we always find ways to cool off by splashing into a pool. The mix of cultures is so rich, our boys are growing up hearing different languages, eating different foods, and seeing other traditions.

I feel this emphasizes the importance of love and connection in defining a family. A strong foundation of love makes our family feel complete and valid, regardless of its structure or makeup. I think this positive affirmation creates a sense of belonging and acceptance.

It’s surprising how much you can love another human being unconditionally. Hearing them say “papi” for the first time, or asking me for story time before bed. The boys always ask when’s it their turn to drive me to work, LOL. We aren’t given a manual on how to raise our kids, with all the grandparent recommendations, parenthood books, blogs, videos etc. We learn as we go, and I love every moment.
