Sometimes when you finish a book that you really love, you feel a little sad. I can’t describe the feeling other than that it kind of feels like you have had to say good bye to a friend. That is just how I felt when I finished reading my April book club pick: Hester, by Laurie Lico Albanese. This beautiful tale is described as “a vivid reimagining of the woman who inspired Hester Prynne, the tragic heroine of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, and a journey into the enduring legacy of New England’s witchcraft trials.” But that description doesn’t really do it justice. It is the story of a woman who did not let herself be defined by her circumstances or even her mistakes – a woman who dared to live life on her terms.
