Expedition Everglades: Discover the Florida Panther with a National Geographic Photographer

May 2
Event Series (See All)
Free

The Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library, in partnership with the nonprofit Reach the World, is proud to present an exciting four-week program featuring National Geographic Explorer and wildlife photographer George McKenzie Jr.

Based in Florida’s Northern Everglades, George uses specialized camera traps to capture rarely seen images of one of the state’s most elusive animals – the endangered Florida panther. His work sheds light on the vital importance of the Florida Wildlife Corridor and the interconnected ecosystems that sustain it.

Throughout this unique virtual exchange, Friends and Library patrons will have the opportunity to:

-Follow George’s fieldwork through journal articles and livestreams direct from the Everglades

-Join two interactive in-person sessions at the Westchester Regional Library to see and touch real camera trap equipment

-Hear George’s personal story and insights from his time in the wild

-Learn how photography, technology, and storytelling can inspire environmental protection
This engaging program invites participants to explore how curiosity, collaboration, and creativity drive conservation and connect communities to nature. Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, an aspiring photographer, or simply curious about Florida’s hidden wilderness, George’s passion and perspective will open your eyes to the beauty – and urgency – of protecting our natural world.

This event is free of charge and family friendly for all ages. Register today for more information.
