Between Flowers and Havoc is an interdisciplinary exhibition showcasing artwork by students from Guitars Over Guns. These works represent a nuanced account of Miami, posing questions about race, gender, community, and social justice. This diverse group of young artists brings forth underrepresented perspectives and an opportunity to address inequities via art.
Jeden Jean-Charles’ skateboard design, Untitled (House on Fire), a symbol for traversing the city, questions housing justice and recalls the history of race uprisings in the U.S. Standing Out by Jovi-Anna Lawson articulates feelings of freedom, displacement, and movement across borders, especially between South Florida, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The exhibition also has an accompanying zine made with the support of the Communications Department at the University of Miami.
