Give Halloween Costumes a Second Life

•

Halloween may be over, but those costumes still have plenty of life left in them! Before you pack away the princess dresses, superhero capes, and spooky accessories, consider giving them another chance to shine. From neighborhood swaps to creative dress-up boxes, here are four easy ways to keep the Halloween magic going long after the last piece of candy is gone.

Swap with friends

Organize a small costume exchange with neighbors, school friends or family. Wash items, check for missing pieces and label sizes before swapping.

Make a dress-up box

Keep favorite capes, hats and accessories for rainy-day imaginative play, school spirit days or themed birthday parties.

Donate responsibly

Ask a local thrift store, school theater program or community organization whether it accepts clean, gently used costumes. Do not leave donations outside a closed facility.

Save the best pieces

A plain black cape, sparkly jacket or fun hat can become the beginning of next year’s costume. Store clean pieces in a labeled bag so you can find them again.
