Dear Hive, For moms of school-aged children, August is a lot. Sure, so is Maycember and just about every holiday, but August is a transition month in a way the others aren’t. Whether you’re dropping off your littlest one for their first day of preschool or sending your oldest to college for the first time or the last, it’s a week of mixed emotions. You’re happy for them and every new beginning ahead. You’re excited for yourself and that sliver of extra time, even if it’s only two hours. And you’re a little sad and a little lonely, especially if this is your first year with an empty nest. We’re complicated creatures, so it’s okay to feel thrilled, heartbroken, and deeply philosophical about the meaning of life all within five minutes. To the mom crying in the car after preschool drop-off, and to the mom kicked to the curb without the movie script college goodbye she pictured, we see you. Sending a big hug to the moms this week, whatever stage of life or emotion this message finds you in. ~Samantha and Team 305 Hive® 🐝
MEET THE MIAMI MOM DESIGNING DREAM TRIPSSylvia Sulkes spent more than two decades in corporate marketing and event production before turning her travel obsession into a business. All that work travel gave her something most of us never get, which is a personal network of hotel directors and local guides across dozens of countries. Now she puts it to work through Sol Kiss Escapes, her Coral Gables luxury travel studio. Sixty-plus countries later, she designs trips for the women who plan everyone else’s summer and never their own. Custom itineraries, family and friend group travel, corporate retreats, and curated small-group trips for women, all backed by Virtuoso perks like room upgrades and someone real to call when a flight goes sideways. She’s also a mom to three, so she knows exactly how hard it is to actually get out the door. If your calendar is full and your soul is running low, she’s your person. Find her HERE.

YOUR SUNSCREEN WAS BORN RIGHT HEREAugust in Miami means sunscreen goes everywhere we go, and we have a neighbor to thank for that. Benjamin Green, a Miami pharmacist and World War II airman, spent the war looking for a way to protect pilots from the tropical sun. His first fix was a thick red petrolatum salve that worked beautifully and smelled awful. Back home, he softened it with cocoa butter and coconut oil, and Coppertone was born. The famous Coppertone Girl sign first went up downtown in 1959. Next time you’re reapplying at the beach, you’re using a little bit of Miami history.
A FIELD GUIDE FOR THEIR TWENTIESDorm shopping is done, the party’s over, and now comes the part nobody preps you for. Author Michelle Douglas spent ten years writing down one lesson a day, ages twenty-one to thirty-one, and turned it into Don’t Wear Shoes You Can’t Walk In: A Field Guide for Your Twenties. Part advice book, part journal, with reflection prompts at the end of every chapter. Think big sister energy in paperback. A Foreword INDIES Book of the Year finalist.
