Dear Hive, October has a way of reminding us to pay attention. To our health, to the people we love, and to the community around us. This week, Lisa Sayfie shares her family’s deeply personal journey with breast cancer and the hope she carries forward. We’re also looking back at a fun night with our Hive Book Club, getting ready for Wild About Miami, and giving you a little peek at what’s coming for Halloween. As always, there’s plenty of local buzz to keep you in the know and connected to the 305. ~Samantha and Team 305 Hive® 🐝

SIX YEARS CANCER-FREE, A LIFETIME OF PURPOSEFor Lisa Sayfie, October marks six years cancer-free and a family’s commitment to turning love into action. With two sisters who are also survivors, her story is deeply personal. Now, her daughters, Bella and Phia, are carrying that purpose forward through Pink Purpose, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. In this heartfelt essay, Lisa reflects on the people who helped her through, the pride she feels watching her daughters lead, and what it means to embrace each day. Click HERE to read.

BOOK BEES GO MAD AT BAY 13Our Book Bees swarmed Bay 13 Brewery & Kitchen in Coral Gables to discuss Sally Hepworth’s Mad Mabel, and the setting couldn’t have been more fitting. The novel is set in Melbourne, and this Aussie brewpub is named for a section of the Melbourne Cricket Ground in its founder’s hometown. Over Australian wine and light bites, we dug into 81-year-old Elsie’s secrets, traded theories, and cast the movie version, debating who should play each character if it ever hits the big screen. Thank you to everyone who joined us. We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
OUR NEXT PICK IS A KILLERCalling all armchair detectives: our next Book Bees pick is Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel by Lucy Foley, the bestselling author of The Guest List. It’s the first new Miss Marple novel in 50 years, and it’s a good one. High in the Swiss Alps, a glamorous hotel fills with guests who all have something to hide: an actress, a politician, a society wife, a doctor. Then someone turns up dead, and only one unassuming woman is paying close enough attention. Read fast and trust no one. Stay tuned to next week’s newsletter for the location and ticket link.
BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB CAPTIVATES MIAMISome shows you watch. This one you feel. We spent an evening at the Arsht Center for Buena Vista Social Club, and it was everything we hoped for: part Broadway show, part concert, part party, and completely moving. From the first notes, the music filled the theater and never let go. There were moments that had us dancing in our seats and others that brought all the emotion. Every Cuban song has a story to tell, and this cast told them beautifully. It’s a celebration of music, culture, memory, and the stories carried from one generation to the next, which hits especially close to home in this city. Judging by the response when we shared it on socials, we weren’t the only ones who felt it. So many of you told us you went and loved it too.
THE CROISSANT CLASS THAT WON US OVERWe first met Chef Benoît “Ben” Pagliardini at a Casa Bake croissant-making class, where he taught us that lamination is everything: those careful folds of butter and dough are what create all the flaky, golden layers. We’ve been following him and his beautiful pastry creations ever since. And we’re not the only fans. His croissants have been named among the best in the entire country. Beyond croissants, look for French favorites like Le Fraisier, Le Saint Honoré, and lemon meringue tarts. Our tip: order ahead, because these pastries sell out fast. Find them HERE.
KNOW YOUR LEMONS, KNOW YOUR NORMALThis week’s buzz fits in your pocket. Know Your Lemons is a free app from the nonprofit Know Your Lemons Foundation, and it makes breast health approachable. Using friendly lemon illustrations, it walks you through the 12 signs of breast cancer (it’s not just lumps), coaches you through a guided self-exam, and sends monthly reminders timed to your cycle. It can also help you assess your risk and build a screening plan to bring to your doctor. It even won a 2025 Webby for Best Health & Fitness App. Download it HERE and share it with someone you love.
