Dear Hive, February is also Low Vision Awareness Month, and this one feels personal. Low vision doesn’t always look the way people expect. It isn’t always total darkness. For many of us, it means reduced peripheral vision, difficulty seeing at night, light sensitivity, or relying on contrast and technology to navigate the world. It means adapting, problem-solving, and sometimes laughing when you wave back at someone who wasn’t actually waving at you. As many of you know, I’ve been sharing more of my own journey with vision loss and recently launched Blindish in Miami, a space where I advocate and talk openly about what it’s like to experience this vibrant city with a changing perspective. It’s not about limitation. It’s about awareness, resilience, and finding new ways to move through the world with confidence. What makes this even more meaningful is that I’m not alone. Michelle, a valued member of our 305 Hive® team, is also visually impaired. We joke that we may need brighter lighting in our meetings, but truly, it’s a reminder that vision loss is part of our community in ways many people don’t realize. We’re working, building, creating, and showing up fully, just with a few extra tools and adjustments. Here in Miami, organizations like the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired provide extraordinary support, training, and advocacy for children and adults navigating vision challenges. Their work is a powerful example of what inclusion looks like in action. Low Vision Awareness Month is not about sympathy. It’s about understanding. It’s about better lighting, clearer signage, accessible spaces, and a little extra patience. It’s learning that blindness is a spectrum. It’s about recognizing that there are many ways to experience Miami’s color, movement, and beauty, and every perspective matters. This month, and always, we’re seeing the 305 with gratitude, just a little differently. ~Samantha and Team 305 Hive® 🐝
FROM BOOK CLUB TO MOVIE NIGHTOur past read, Project Hail Mary, sparked great conversation and a memorable moment for book club regulars who know that Lili has a personal connection to the film’s production team. That made us think: why stop at the page? For our March Book Club, we’re planning to take the experience to the movies. We are currently working on the details and are targeting March 31st. Stay tuned to this space for more information as soon as it’s finalized.
SEEING LIFE THROUGH A NEW LENSLast January, I learned I would be going blind. What followed was a year of adjustment, reflection, and growth. In a new blog post on Blindish in Miami, I share what that moment taught me and how it led to the creation of a platform focused on awareness and community. Thank you for walking beside me. Thank you to event chairs Andria Dickinson and Katie Lane Arriola for their leadership in creating such a memorable experience, and to sponsors Grove Bank and Trust and 305 Wines for their generous support. A special thank you to THesis Hotel Paseo for providing a beautiful and welcoming setting for the evening.
SUNSHINE, MEET YOUR MATCHWhen it comes to protecting your eyes, it’s not just about what’s in front of you. Sun exposure hits from the sides too, which is why wrap-around sunglasses offer more complete coverage. These polarized fit-over frames are designed to shield your eyes from every angle, reducing glare and blocking UV rays whether you’re driving, boating, or enjoying a bright Miami afternoon. Wear them on their own or comfortably over your regular glasses for added protection. Because good vision is important, but protecting it is even smarter.
