305 Hive’s Book Club Experience: West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge.

Join us for a magical Book Club Experience where we’ll get up close and personal with our tall, graceful giraffe friends at Zoo Miami. Meet at 10:00 AM at the entrance and get whisked away by golf cart followed by a special treat where we can feed the giraffes, take photos, and learn more about these amazing animals. Next, we will enjoy a light bite at a lovely spot over the lake to chat about the book. Tickets are limited for this exclusive experience. However, if you would like your family to join you after the event they are welcome to buy general zoo entrance tickets and meet you at approx. 11:30.

What’s more fun than a book club meeting? A book club meeting at the zoo! In keeping with the theme, our next book pick, West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge, centers around the journey of the San Diego Zoo’s first two giraffes who were driven from New York to San Diego in a specially fitted truck in 1938. Inspired by true events, the tale weaves real-life figures with fictional ones, including the world’s first female zoo director, a crusty old man with a past, a young female photographer with a secret, and assorted reprobates as spotty as the giraffes. Join us for our literary journey from New York to California and our literal journey through one of the world’s premier zoos! ~Lili
