The 2021 King Tide season is officially here! A King Tide is a higher-than-normal tidal flood that lasts about 3 hours, and can be observed 1.5-2 hours before and after peak time. The upcoming King Tide windows are expected as follows: September 9-11, October 5-11, October 20-21, November 3-9, and December 2-7
King Tides can cause very high-water levels, so Miami residents are encouraged to keep the following tips in mind over the next couple of months:
- Do not enter floodwater and do not allow children to play in floodwater.
- Do not drive through floodwater. It may be deeper than it appears, and unseen debris could cause flat tires.
- Do not park your vehicle in low-lying areas.
- Report King Tides in your neighborhood by using the 311 app.
