nobody tell miami summer is over

Dear Hive,

Labor Day means something different down here. Up north, folks are folding away the white pants and digging out sweaters. In Miami, we’re still months from anything resembling a chill, our kids have been back in school for weeks already, and the pool won’t cool off until somewhere around Thanksgiving. So we take the long weekend for what it actually is: a well-earned pause. A day to close the laptop, fire up the grill, and let somebody else handle the group chat. And a good moment to tip our hats to everyone working through it: the servers, nurses, and shop owners who keep this city humming. Whether you’re headed to the Keys, the beach, or no farther than your own backyard, we hope you get a real break.

MEET THE MAN BEHIND YOUR DREAM KITCHEN

That’s Byron Valdivia, standing in a kitchen he just finished. He designs every project in 3D before a single piece is cut, fits them with premium Blum hardware, and manages the build from first drawing to final install. Hundreds of Miami homes later, he still runs every consultation himself. BJV Solution Services handles kitchens, bathrooms, closets, and cabinet refinishing across South Florida. If your kitchen has been on the list for a while, Byron will come look at it for free. Call 305-807-3449.

THREE MIAMI COMMUNITIES, ONE IMPACTFUL EVENING

Last Thursday, 305 Hive®, FemCity Miami, and Luly B. hosted an evening at Mamey in Coral Gables, and it delivered exactly what we hoped for. Cocktails and Connections brought three communities of women into one space for two hours of great drinks, light bites, and conversations that kept going long past the last pour. Some people came to grow their network. Some came to find their people. Everyone left with a few new names in their phone. Thank you to FemCity Miami and Luly B. for partnering with us, and to THesis Hotel for hosting a beautiful night. Check out our Instagram REEL for additional photos from the evening.

JOIN US AT COLLAB FOR BOOK CLUB

The Book Bees are traveling back to 1776, no time machine required. A Founding Mother by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie puts Abigail Adams, wife of one president and mother of another, front and center where she belongs. Set against revolutionary Boston’s riots, blockades, and the outbreak of war, it’s the perfect read as America marks its 250th birthday this year. Smart, saucy, and impossible to put down, just like Abigail herself. Grab your TICKET and join 305 Hive® and Alpha School Miami at The Collab in the THesis Hotel, for wine, yummy bites, and conversation.

JOIN THE BIGGEST CLEANUP OF THE YEAR

Mark this one down, Hive. The International Coastal Cleanup lands on Saturday, September 19, and Miami-Dade goes big. VolunteerCleanup.org coordinates dozens of shoreline sites across the county, and our friends at Frost Science host one of them through their MUVE program. Bring closed-toe shoes, sun protection, and a reusable water bottle. They’ll handle the gloves, bags, and data cards. Most sites run a few hours in the morning; they’re free, and kids are welcome at plenty of them. If you’ve been looking for a hands-on way to give back to the water we all love, this is it.

US OPEN 2026 – NOT JUST FOR TENNIS

Contributed by Sara James

Sinner and Djokovic out, Carlos Alcaraz is back, Coco Gauff a huge win in Cincinnati, Sabalenka trying to hold on to number 1 spot, being threatened by Pegula and Swiatek. Then there is Big Foe, Fritz, Shelton and Paul representing the strength of American tennis, but none of that is the big story at the US Open 2026, it is all about the fashion, spectators and big revenues! The Open has become the place to see and be seen. Roger Federer: An Icon Returns To New York brought out fashion icon Anna Wintour who enjoyed the exhibition match with Serena Williams by her side. Other fashionistas were on display including a stunning Kaia Gerber (looking like a mini me to her famous mom Cindy Crawford), pop star Tate McRae and influencer Paige Paul. Nike designed basketball-inspired outfits embracing the Knicks epic win and Sabalenka accessorized her kit with 127 carats of colorful gemstones.

Keeping up with this crowd comes at a serious cost. Resale and secondary market tickets are up 60% and the profit margin has leapt to astounding numbers. Last year the tournament netted $17m from Honey Deuce cocktails alone and with this year’s addition of Monet’s Watermelon Slice at $39 a cup, it could top the Honey Deuce revenue. Not to mention the $40 lobster roll and the $100 caviar chicken nuggets. Only in New York City would people take a $3.00 subway in $700 Gucci sneakers, pay $364 for a grounds ticket, then buy a $40 cocktail, to take Instagram photos….and maybe watch some tennis! The American Dream.

THE LEAST DRAMATIC HURRICANE PREP YOU’LL DO

Hurricane season peaks around September 10, and every Miami family knows the drill. The part nobody plans for is day two, when the power is still out, and every phone in the house is at nine percent. A compact power station like this one handles exactly that. It lives in the hurricane bin all year and earns its place in one afternoon. Charge it now and top it off monthly. Matching solar panels are sold separately and will refill it during a long outage, which in Miami usually means the sun is back before the power is. We’ve added it to our Amazon storefront as a Hive-approved pick, affiliate link and all.
