With a deep love for Miami’s energy and culture, Melissa is raising her children to be bilingual, connected to their Cuban roots, and immersed in a city that celebrates diversity and innovation. Whether leading in the boardroom or the playroom, Melissa brings wisdom, warmth, and a fierce love that inspires everyone around her.
What do you love about being a mom in Miami?
I love raising my kids in such a vibrant, culturally rich city. Miami has an incredible energy — from the sunshine and the ocean to the deep sense of community, resilience, and a spirit of innovation that fuels both my personal and professional life. What makes it even more special is that my children are growing up bilingual and immersed in a mosaic of cultures, especially our Cuban heritage, which keeps us deeply connected to our roots.
What’s a piece of advice or a mantra that keeps you going on tough days?
I always remind myself: “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” It’s something I’ve had to learn over time — that taking care of myself, even in small ways, makes me a better mom, leader, and person. And when the day feels overwhelming, I try to focus on the present moment and remember that the chaos is often where the magic of motherhood lives.
What’s one thing about motherhood that surprised you the most?
The sheer capacity of love — how it grows exponentially with each child. I used to wonder how I could possibly love another child as much as the first, and then you do, effortlessly. And honestly, the way each child teaches you something different about yourself, that’s been the most beautiful and surprising part of the journey.
